Sharkey Issaquena Community Hospital remains open and operational at the Civic Center located on Highway 61 in Rolling Fork. There has been no final determination by FEMA as to rebuild or repair the former location on Race Street, and it is that decision that will plot a course for our future. Despite our best efforts and constant communication with FEMA officials, the process simply takes time. Rest assured we are doing everything within our power to expedite the process and ensure that the necessary resources are allocated accurately.
In the meantime, installation of modular components will begin around mid-May 2024. This will allow for more patient privacy and comfort. Essentially we are removing the three large tents currently in use for operations and replacing them with modular dividers and constructing patient rooms. The rooms will be similar to traditional hospital rooms with a private bathroom and television. Although this is not a permanent solution, it is a big step toward normalcy.
